Futurepedia demonstrates Dots, OpenAI’s new always-on, proactive personal assistant agent, after several days of early access. The video is not sponsored and shows a setup from scratch.
Dots has access to a user’s ChatGPT memories, connected tools, skills, and scheduled tasks, and can start new chats, work sessions, and Codex sessions, including on the user’s computer. It also gets its own persistent cloud computer that can browse and store material, which the user can watch or take over. The video shows naming and customizing the agent, choosing call, email, or Slack, and granting desktop access. Availability is currently limited to Pro and Enterprise plans.
The demos include asking Dots to compare itself with ChatGPT, Work, and Codex, and using the new Pages feature, a Notion-like space for notes and knowledge that Dots fills in itself. In the most involved example, one prompt has Dots write three intros with a skill, pick the best, build motion graphics in Codex, and start a thumbnail in a separate chat. The presenter also tries a voice call from a phone and notes its limits, such as being unable to open tabs in the user’s browser.
