Summary
Cole Medin lays out the fundamentals of building an AI second brain, the personal assistant he says now runs much of his business and saves him roughly 25 to 30 hours a week. He argues that many people overcomplicate these systems and that only a few components are needed.
The video uses the “four C’s” framework, which Medin credits to fellow AI educator Nate Herk, as both a build guide and an audit checklist. His own setup is deliberately simple: Claude Code runs the system, and Obsidian holds a knowledge base of markdown files. The context layer includes core documents loaded into every session, such as soul.md, user.md and memory.md, along with an underlying Karpathy-style LLM wiki that ingests summaries of each conversation into daily logs.
Medin suggests a simple test: open a fresh session and ask what your business does and who works there. A good second brain should answer like a teammate. If it cannot, he recommends working with the system itself to fix the gaps. He notes the approach applies whether you use Claude Code, Grockbot, Hermes or OpenClaw.
