Descriptions:

OpenAI has rolled out mobile access to Codex through the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android, and content creator Paul Lipsky walks through the full setup process and his initial impressions in this hands-on video. Codex mobile connects to a user’s desktop Codex installation, allowing them to trigger and monitor coding tasks from their phone while the work runs on their Mac or PC. Lipsky demonstrates pairing his iPhone with a MacBook Pro, noting that the process involves multiple authorization steps and that he encountered issues getting it working on his Mac Mini โ€” a problem he says others in the comments are reporting as well.

Once connected, Lipsky shows Codex mobile editing real project files: he asks it to find a markdown file and convert it to bullet points, then watches the change propagate simultaneously on both his phone and desktop. He also highlights that completed tasks trigger push notifications on iPhone and Apple Watch, and that the mobile interface mirrors the same project list visible in the desktop app. The experience notably surprised him as far more capable than Claude’s Dispatch feature, which he describes as less intuitive.

Availability is rolling out in preview across all ChatGPT plans including the free and Go tiers in supported regions, with macOS desktop support live and Windows coming soon. Users can connect multiple computers to a single mobile session, with Lipsky noting that full computer use โ€” including app control via Chrome extension โ€” becomes available on machines where that feature is enabled.
