Summary

Google Gemini now supports Skills, a feature that Claude and ChatGPT already offered, and this video from Skill Leap AI demonstrates how to use it. A skill lets users teach the AI how to handle a task once, then reuse it every time with no extra prompting. Skills work in Gemini chat and in Gemini Spark, Google’s agent product comparable to ChatGPT’s work mode and Claude’s Cowork.

The video covers three ways to create a skill: building one with Gemini through an interview-style flow, entering the title, description, and instructions manually, or uploading a skill file or folder. Each skill is built around a SKILL.md file, and can include supporting files such as a pricing CSV. Skills are invoked by typing a slash in chat.

Ten example skills are built live, including a meeting recap generator, a skill that writes in the user’s own style, a proposal writer, and an executive summary tool for long PDFs. The demo also shows combining two skills in one prompt, generating a proposal and a matching email, then exporting a PDF. Outputs can be drafted to Gmail or saved to Google Docs. A free guide with 25 skills is offered in the description.
