Mistral Small 4 is Here: One Model That Does it All

More

Descriptions:

Mistral AI’s Mistral Small 4 is a newly released mixture-of-experts model with 119 billion total parameters — only 6.5 billion of which are activated per token — giving it a favorable speed-to-capability ratio. The model features a 256K token context window, accepts both text and image inputs, and consolidates three previously separate Mistral model families (instruct, reasoning, and Devstral for coding) into a single deployment. Mistral claims a 40% reduction in end-to-end completion time in latency-optimized configurations.

In this video, Fahd Mirza tests the model live via Mistral’s AI Studio immediately after its release. His first prompt asks Mistral Small 4 to generate a fully self-contained HTML rocket simulator — the result includes an animated launch sequence, live telemetry readouts, interactive controls for thrust and booster configuration, and a sky gradient that transitions from blue to black with altitude. The demo runs without modification. Mirza then tests multilingual translation across dozens of languages including Bengali, Russian, Urdu, Japanese, Indonesian, and several regional languages, noting strong coverage with some literalness in lower-resource languages.

Benchmark comparisons shown during the video indicate Mistral Small 4 leads the Mistral internal family in instruct mode, outperforms Mistral Small 3.2 across the board, and is competitive with Mistral Medium. Mirza notes the image input (multimodal) feature was unavailable for testing in AI Studio at time of recording and flags it for follow-up coverage.
