Summary
Alex Ziskind takes a first look at the MSI Prestige N16 Flip AI Plus, the first laptop built on NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform. The pitch is a DGX Spark in laptop form: 128 GB of LPDDR5 memory, a 20-core N1X Arm CPU running Windows on Arm, a 16-inch 4K tandem OLED touchscreen, and a compact 140-watt charger. MSI claims it can run 120-billion-parameter models and hold peak performance without thermal throttling, and the video sets out to test both claims.
The benchmarks start with software compatibility, where the host finds most developer tools, including Visual Studio, VS Code, Zed, Python, Node, and Adobe apps, running natively. Speedometer 3.1 scores landed between 35 and 37. A multi-core compile test took about 22 seconds plugged in and 23.2 seconds on battery, and running Python under WSL turns out to be the better choice for heavy workloads.
For local AI, the host measures GPU memory bandwidth at 143 GB/s for copies and 309 GB/s for reads, compared with 113 and 234 on the DGX Spark. Compute is roughly level, at 101 versus 97. The laptop exposes about 98 GB to the GPU and runs a 120B model inside Zed’s agent entirely on-device.
