Summary
A free, open set of Adobe look-alike apps called ArtCraft has been drawing attention, and this video puts it to the test. The developer says the project was built from scratch by Claude Opus 5.5 agents without any Adobe source code, a clean-room approach rather than a legal verdict. The suite has seven apps: PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, EffectCraft, Lightcraft and others. They are available at getartcraft.com for Mac, Windows, Linux and the browser.
The walkthrough starts with EffectCraft, the After Effects alternative, and covers the familiar timeline, layers panel and keyframe workflow. It then shows Claude Code, running in the Claude desktop app, controlling the editor through its command-line tool, MCP server and an agents.md instruction file. From a single prompt, Claude builds a 15-second animated channel intro and a promo for a made-up app called Flowy. Every element lands as an editable layer rather than a flattened video, so the creator can adjust easing, position and color by hand.
The video also takes a quick look at FilmCraft, the Premiere Pro-style editor, covering cuts, transitions and color tools. It is candid about the rough edges of an early project, and about who benefits most: students, freelancers in regions where Adobe pricing is out of reach, and Linux users.
