Summary
Bloomberg Tech sits down with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai to announce a $3.5 billion strategic investment by Nvidia in MediaTek through the purchase of convertible bonds — one of the largest partnership expansions Nvidia has announced publicly. The deal significantly expands an existing collaboration centered on NVLink chip-to-chip interconnect technology, which allows MediaTek’s SoCs to connect directly to Nvidia GPUs with shared memory and high-speed networking.
The partnership spans multiple product lines and generations. The first joint product is DGX Spark, a desktop AI computer delivering one petaflop of performance for running advanced agentic AI locally. The expanded agreement adds NVLink Fusion — which lets customers integrate custom silicon (XPUs) directly into Nvidia’s GPU-based data center architecture without rebuilding the networking and scaling stack — and extends collaboration into robotics and autonomous vehicles. Tsai also confirmed that a forthcoming Microsoft product will use the MediaTek-Nvidia processor as its foundation, framed as a reinvention of the Windows PC for the age of agents.
On the financial side, MediaTek had previously projected its AI chip business at approximately $2 billion for the current year, with a target of capturing roughly 15% of an $80 billion addressable market in the following year. Tsai indicated that proceeds from the $5 billion bond program announced in July will go toward supply chain development and accelerating the joint technology roadmap. Jensen Huang addressed the XPU competitive landscape directly, distinguishing Nvidia’s general-purpose GPU acceleration from specialized custom silicon while positioning NVLink Fusion as the mechanism that makes both coexist in the same data center.
